Emergency Services

What We Do

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course prepares the EMT student to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMTs, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting, and providing patient transportation.

Emergency Medical Technicians provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.

Students learn how to function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system and perform interventions with the equipment typically found on an ambulance. Students in the Emergency Services program train to become the critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.

Permission for off campus travel and a physical are required within 3 months of starting class (documentation must verify ability to lift 50 lbs.)
