Course Description

Take your lifesaving skills to the next level and expand your scope of clinical practice. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Licensure Course is designed for certified EMTs who are ready to bridge the gap between basic life support and advanced pre-hospital medical care.

The AEMT plays a critical role in the emergency medical services system, serving as a vital link from the scene of an emergency directly to the hospital. Operating under medical oversight as part of a comprehensive EMS response, an AEMT provides targeted, limited advanced emergency medical care and efficient transportation for critical and emergent patients.

Through a rigorous combination of interactive classroom lectures, immersive skills lab simulations, and real-world clinical and field rotations, this course equips you with the advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and invasive skills necessary to stabilize patients during high-stress medical and trauma emergencies.

What You Will Learn & Master

By advancing your certification, you will move beyond standard EMT interventions and learn to utilize both basic and advanced equipment typically found on a modern paramedic-level ambulance:

  • Advanced Airway Management: Master the placement of supraglottic airways, utilize continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) systems, and perform advanced respiratory assessments.
  • Intravenous (IV) Therapy & Access: Learn the mechanics of peripheral intravenous cannulation and intraosseous (IO) needle insertion for rapid fluid and medication delivery.
  • Pharmacology & Medication Administration: Safely administer a targeted formulary of critical medications, including intravenous dextrose, epinephrine for anaphylaxis, nitrous oxide for pain management, naloxone, and nebulized bronchodilators.
  • Advanced Clinical Assessment: Deepen your understanding of pathophysiology, medical emergencies (cardiac, diabetic, respiratory), and traumatic injuries to make rapid, accurate field diagnoses.

Comprehensive Training Components

To qualify for National Registry (NREMT) and state licensure, this program is structured around three foundational pillars:

  1. Didactic Instruction & Interactive Lectures: In-depth review of human anatomy, advanced physiology, pharmacology legalities, and EMS systems operations.
  2. Practical Skills Laboratory: Hands-on, instructor-guided practice sessions where you will refine muscle memory for IV starts, advanced airway placement, and patient assessment scenarios until they become second nature.
  3. Clinical & Field Rotations: Real-world experiential learning completed under the supervision of preceptors in active hospital emergency departments and onboard busy emergency medical transport units.

Course Outcomes & Certification

Upon successful completion of all classroom hours, practical competencies, and clinical requirements, graduates will be awarded a Course Completion Certificate. This document grants eligibility to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Advanced EMT cognitive and psychomotor examinations to achieve official state licensure.
